Description
Name: Amyris
Latin Name: Amyris balsamifera
Origin: Haiti
The Amyris bush is small bushy tree with white flowers. The oil is viscous and has a musty, mild wood type scent. The oil is extracted by steam distillation from the bark. Some call it West Indian Sandalwood, and it has been used as a less costly alternative to Sandalwood.
The bush was traditional used by fishermen to provide torch light, because of its high oil content.
