Name:  Valerian

Latin Name: – Valeriana officinalis

Origin: China

Produced in China by steam distillation of the rhizomes (roots). In aromatherapy is has been used for nervous tension, insomnia and migraine. Traditionally it was used where there have been nervous problems, also with rheumatism and as a pain reliever. The plant will grow here in the UK and we have at times tried to grow and distil this oil. Due to the requirement for high labour input it is currently imported from China.
